Description
Weller Antique 107 is a non-age-statement iteration of Old Weller’s Antique 107 Bourbon, replacing discontinued with-age varieties. Around 7 years old, it shares mashbill, warehouse, and proof with Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year. It has a mature, refined flavor profile and is known for its robust strength and deep complexity.
Tasting Notes
Nose: There’s a lot of spice that immediately hits your nose, with subtle hints of vanilla, caramel and butterscotch. Deeper, the nose has whiffs of leather and nutmeg with trace amounts of cinnamon. Most surprising is the amount of oak that comes off of it for a relatively young bourbon. Smell long enough and faint sweet barbecue notes pull out.
Taste: It comes off a bit thin at first but then a tidal wave of flavor and heat hit that even affects your nose. It feels like you’re sipping a barrel proof bourbon without the high proof attached to it. It has moments of sweetness mixed in that is countered with an alcohol bite. A hot and full flavor affair.
Finish: The oak shines through in this wine, with a delightful blend of char and spice. Wheat sweetness remains, but a measured heat blast is evident. The semi-dry finish is not complex but has a decent weight, balancing the overall package.
