Hanyu, a popular single malt in Japan, closed in 2000 due to an economic recession. The remaining unblended stock was purchased by Venture Whisky, founded by Hanyu founder’s grandson, Ichiro Akuto. In 2005, Akuto bottled his first single casks under the Ichiro’s Malt label, making Hanyu one of Japan’s most sought-after spirits.
